Location

Hodyoad is situated in rural surroundings, mid-way between the beautiful lakes of Loweswater and Ennerdale. Close to the market town of Cockermouth - the birth place of William Wordsworth.

The Northern Lakes and Coast have an aura of peace and tranquility that's hard to find nowadays. there is a lot of natural beauty to enjoy within a short drive of Hodyoad, the whole area is a haven for wildlife. The beautiful valleys of Ennerdale (picture below), Wasdale, Eskdale, Loweswater and Buttermere with their lakes encircling fells, are a paradise for walkers and climbers.

You could head towards the coast and visit the georgian town of Whitehaven which is steeped in maritime history or further down the coast to the delightful beach at St Bees. A must is a visit to the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway, known locally as Laa'l Ratty, all ages will enjoy the magical ride on the most beautiful train journey in England also Muncaster Castle with it's magnificent gardens, meander along the Georgian terrace and absorb the spectacular panoramic views of the mountains. Muncaster also has the finest Owl Centre in the world with around 50 species and is headquarters to The World Owl Trust.

Just a 20 minute ride away is the market town of Keswick on Dewentwater, also known as 'The Queen of the Lakes'

Within a few miles guests can enjoy fell walking, rock climbing, pony trekking, fishing, off road cycling, golf and many more activities. The area around Hodyoad offers a wide range of good country pubs, where visitors and locals alike, can get together and make new friends while enjoying the good food and a quiet drink.

The A66 means the Northern Lakes enjoy easy access with the M6 motorway at Penrith, Junction 40. Follow the A66 for 31 miles past Keswick and enjoy the drive along the length of Bassenthwaite Lake to Cockermouth. Turn left at the roundabout onto the A5086, follow this road for 6 miles and as you pass the Lamplugh village boundary, Hodyoad is set back on your right hand side.
